Acne Flare-up and It's Effects on Me + A Bit of Body Image

Hi everyone! We are on our last full day here at Las Palmas and these are photos of my outfit for yesterday evening. As you can see I feel happy and joyful even though my skin doesn't look like it's best. Since coming here my acne completely flared-up and my face especially chin got covered in achy and big breakouts. It's probably because of the sun, sweat and sunscreen combined and has had me a bit down. But I didn't want it to affect my stay here and ruin my so far so good holiday. 

Otherwise I really like how I look in these photos, I look cute and happy, but the acne and uneven skin makes me look at these and think I'm an ugly duckling. And the second thought I get is: Why?! When I see acne on some other person I think nothing about it, but on myself it makes me feel really self-conscious and un-confident. But why must it be so? I try to change my perspective and look at myself and not feel bad about how my skin or my body looks. I want to wear whichever clothes I find pretty and nice looking and wear makeup to accentuate my looks and make them stand out. 

But as I have suffered from a bad self-image and hated my body for so long it's a long journey to somewhere where I can say I truly love it. Right now I'm on a self-accepting phase, I accept myself as I am at this moment, but I can't say I like it. I use this blog as one platform for self-love and a form to grow as a person. I want to show myself as I am and help myself and others with finding their own style and learning about myself at the same time.

DIY virkatut korit - DIY Crochet Baskets

Mitä tehdä, kun et saa yöllä unta ja olo on virkeä, mutta et halua herättää muita: Alat virkkaamaan pikkukoreja. Näin minun aivoni ainakin päättelivät ja tässä ovat lopputulokset. 

What to do when it's the middle of the night and you can't seem to fall asleep and don't want to disturb others while still doing something somewhat worth while: You can crochet yourself some tiny baskets. At least that's what my brain came up with and this is what my hands made.

Halusin kylpyhuoneeseen itselleni, jonkin näköisen kapean korin lasihyllylle, johon voisin pistää päivittäiset ihonhoitotuotteeni siististi säilytykseen. Kun sellaisia ei kaupoista tahtonut kohtuuhintaisena löytyä, päädyin ostamaan alennuslankaa ja virkkuukoukun ja väsätä sellaisen ihan itse. Ison korin virkkasin viikonloppuiltoina valmiiksi ja pikkuinen pompuloille ja klipseille väsääntyi yhtenä yönä, kun en meinannut saada lainkaan unen päästä kiinni. Niistä tuli juuri sopivan kotikutoisen näköisiä, mutta tarpeeksi simppeleitä meidän kylppäriimme. Ainut vaan, että tästä alkoi oikea virkkausinto ja tekisi mieli virkata nyt jotain isompaa...

I was thinking I'd like to have a nice basket to put my facial essentials in to store on the class shelf we have in our bathroom. I couldn't find any proper ones with a decent price range so I decided I'll just hassle some up myself. The bigger basket was made during weekend nights last week and the smaller one for bobby bins and scrunchies was an idea I came up with one sleepless night. They look rather homemade and that's what I fancy about them alot, simple and cute so they fit my purposes. Only thing this really put me into a crochet boom, I'd want to try something bigger...

DIY koristetyynyt - DIY interior pillow covers

Olen aina ollut käsillä tekevä ihminen ja ala- sekä yläasteella tein käsitöitä ja vaatteita koko ajan. Tässä viime vuosina on ollut aika hiljaista käsitöiden suhteen, mutta kun sain joululahjaksi oman ompelukoneen niin asiaan alkoi hiljalleen tulla muutosta. 

I've always a handicrafts person making my own clothes as a teenager, sowing and knitting presents etc. Only in the latest years it has been a little quiet on that front, but as I got my first own sowing machine last Christmas it has slowly come into my life again.

Viimeisimmät ompelukseni ovat olleet nämä tilkkutöinä tehdyt koristetyynynpäälliset. Kankaat ovat suurin osa jo käytetyistä tekstiileistä, käytettynä ostettu tai saatu aikoja sitten. Innostuin tässä kuussa asuntomme sisustamisesta toden teolla, kun vihdoin saimme uuden lattian kuun alussa. Olen siis päässyt tekemään uusia sisustushankintoja, jotka ovat oikeastaan kaikki käytettynä hankittuja tori.fistä tai kirppareilta. 

The latest designs I've made have been these patchwork interior pillow covers. Most of the fabrics are of old textiles, bought second-hand or have been given to me ages ago as a present. In this last month I have gotten more excited about the interior design of our apartment as we got a new floor at the beginning of it. So I have been able to do some interior shopping at tori.fi and second-hand shops.

Näihin tyynyihin sain inspiraatiota Instagramista itämaistyylisistä tyynyistä ja halusin saada meille persoonallisempia tyynyliinoja sen sijaan, että kaikki päälliset olivat aiemmin samanlaiset joka tyynyssä. Tilkuista saa rakennettua, vaikka minkälaista ja näköistä printtiä ja värejä vaihdellen saa erilaista dynamiikkaa tyynyihin. Värimaailmaa yritän pitää samanlaisena ja punaiset sävyt ovat aika kantava teema näissä tällä hetkellä.

With these pillows I got inspiration from Instagram when I went through some pictures of oriental styled pillows and carpets and collected them into my collections-tab. I wanted to have some some individuality in the pillows but have a similar style as they used to be of same fabric before which was dull as can be. When using the patchwork technique you can create new kinds of prints and play with the dynamics of colours. I tried to keep the colour scheme continuous so that they each are different but still fit nicely together.
